Russian drones struck a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih on August 21, 2026, killing at least 15 people and injuring more than 130, according to Ukrainian authorities. Children were among those reported killed and injured.

Ukrainian officials said the attack involved a second strike after emergency personnel and civilians had begun responding to the initial explosion. President Volodymyr Zelensky described the incident as a double-tap attack intended to strike rescuers. Russia had not publicly confirmed that characterization when the initial casualty reports were issued.

Regional authorities reported extensive emergency operations at the site, with seriously injured patients transferred for medical treatment. The attack occurred during an intensified period of Russian missile and drone strikes against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

Russia has stated throughout the war that its attacks are directed at military and military-related targets. Ukraine has repeatedly accused Russian forces of striking civilian locations, while Russian authorities have made similar accusations concerning Ukrainian attacks inside Russia.

The Kryvyi Rih strike followed a major Russian attack on Kyiv and continued Ukrainian long-range attacks against Russian oil, industrial, and logistics infrastructure. The exchanges demonstrate the expanding use of drones and missiles far beyond the immediate ground front as the war continues.
